Coming up next on VoiceBox: Lieder Alive!: Workshopping the German art song

Sunday, August 18, 2013

Alongside arias from operas, lieder, a type of art song developed in Germany in the 19th century, are a beloved staple of a classically-trained singer’s repertoire. VoiceBox host Chloe Veltman is joined in the studio by Maxine Bernstein, founder of Lieder Alive!, a Bay Area-based music series dedicated to furthering the art of lieder, and Kindra Scharich, a recitalist and opera singer who loves to perform lieder, for an exploration of this lyrical art form.

The show airs this Friday, August 23 from 10-11pm at 91.7 FM. Or listen anytime via the on demand online music player at kalw.org. (Re-run: This program originally aired on February 25, 2011)

If you missed last week's show, it is available on demand via kalw's online music player throughout this week. Click here and scroll down to the VoiceBox link to access the latest broadcast. All previously-aired VoiceBox broadcasts can be found here.

Please take a look at our blog post about this original music video by a San Francisco classroom! The students used everyday objects and voice to creative effect.

Also, tune in to Louisville, Kentucky's Fine Arts Station, WUOL 90.5 fm, to hear a series of Voicebox's shows on the classical voice this August, Saturdays at 8pm! For show titles and dates see WUOL's website.
